Classically trained pianist, struck by lightning and galvanised to the dark side of synthesis. Laurie Black has been described as “lovechild of Victoria Wood and Gary Numan”, morphing from the Fringe cabaret underworld into live music lineups with her live synth-sequencer setup, most notably Adam Ant’s 2022 ANTICS UK tour support.

Punk-electro bleeps and bloops meet politically enraged lyrics in her most recent album Angst Music (2023), described as “challenging the boundaries of musical expression”.

Now gigging with a range of synths including a modular set up, keep an eye out for specific ‘modular gigs’. In 2025, she’s writing and gigging – and in Autumn touring with Professor Elemental!

Down From Above Like an angel with dirty fingernails, London’s Down From Above are a tantalising contradiction, one that juxtaposes bittersweet melodies with menacing guitar riffs and solos, instinctive pop sensibility against growling bass lines and twisted synths, ethereal calm in opposition to hard driving beats and rhythms.
