Artrocker Launch Night SERENE WE WILD BLOOD Y-BOT BAD LUNGS Artrocker Club Night
SERENE + WE WILD BLOOD
+ Artrocker DJs
7.30 - 11.30pm
On 'the' scene BUT barely keeping things like their namesake in their wake, the four piece punkers are peeping through the keyhole and booting the doors open with their debut single ‘With You’.
Coming in hot with a riff that Pissed Jeans may have wished they wrote, Serene’s influences may be obvious to you but cynicism will dictate if you’re picking up what they’re putting down… There’s a little piece of Lux and Iggy in the vocals while the rhythm section has that real Black Rebel Motorcycle Club swing to it, you’ve heard it before through the ages but this time it’s done properly and soaked in right amount of wet grit that few groups in London have half a handful of, let alone spades of it like these guys!
Sonically painting with the same palette IDLES are currently using, ‘With You’ is a tune that’ll do it for you just like the title says. Killer choruses, tension filled build ups and verses doused in millennial anxiety, ‘With You’ creeps and rocks along like a steam train on some bent out of shape tracks. Tune in now!
WE WILD BLOOD »
We Wild Blood deliver a dark devolution - double-vocals bubbling through a thick pot of broiling mess. Clattering drums face the haunted drudgery of a possessed acoustic guitar and everything tumbles slowly into a swamp of rolling electric chaos.
They've been darkening the scene as a two piece since 2012 but have recently welcomed a heavy bass guitar to the fold.
Their first physical release, a 5 Track cassette, was released on the awesome new label Hominid Sounds in June.
Spawned from the ashes of London art-rock group Manflu and the legacy of My Bloody Valentine, Y-BOT present a new vision of alternative 'noise-hop' in the form of their debut album “Young Blood Old Tricks”.
Y-BOT brings a mutated mix of prog-punk, menacing bass and drums and experimental fragmented lyricism. Produced by Rory Atwell, (Kate Tempest, Kasms), and voted Album of the week on The Artrocker Radio Show on Resonance 104.4 FM, London, 28th November 2017, the 10 tracks on “Young Blood Old Tricks” feature influences as diverse as Magma, Eric B. and Rakim, Can, Minutemen and Kool Keith, among others. Y-BOT are currently gigging extensively in the UK and are in post-production with their upcoming release due for Spring 2018 with Producer Ant Chapman, (Arndales, Collapsed Lung).
BAD LUNGS »
In the spare 5 minutes we have where those bristol champs in IDLES decide to be idle, we’re lucky to serve up a totally ripping new single wrapped in the same spiky post-punk/garage rock racket! Please make yourself known to brand new London rippers BAD LUNGS. ...and with a vicious phaser soaked howl ala territorial pissings from singer Tom Howlett comes the band’s debut single ‘The DTs’ a rapid firing gunk-punk attack about the ‘Delirium Tremens’ aka alcohol withdrawals. Firing and mouthing off with an adolescent sneer you woulda liked on your 80s matchbox singles or early Horrors releases. However you’re not living in the past here, this is real fast and heavy garage rock played by a ripping five piece, there’s creepy b-movie keyboards giving that b-52s vibe while the heavy and hard guitars stomp around like Ty Segall in the Slaughterhouse era of records, cake these distorted layers on to some powerhouse drumming from Chris Britain and you’ll making bets this song is going to careen and crash on to just about any stage and turntable in no time.
